Charleston School of Law has promoted Jean Steadman to Professor of Law, effective August 1.
Since joining the Law School as a Visiting Professor in 2018 and subsequently serving as Assistant Professor and Tenured Associate Professor, Professor Steadman has built an outstanding record of achievement across teaching, scholarship, community, and service. She currently serves as the Director of the Center for Business and Transactional Law, which she founded, and has demonstrated visionary leadership in advancing transactional legal education.
“Her extensive committee work, mentorship of teaching and research fellows, and engagement in student and community activities reflect a deep commitment to institutional excellence,” said Charleston Law President J. Edward Bell III.
Steadman founded the Charleston Law Transactional Law Team in 2021, which has achieved remarkable student success and has earned eight national awards in recent years.
Professor Steadman has been recognized for excellence in teaching, having received numerous honors, including Professor of the Year, 1L Professor of the Year, Outstanding Professor of the Year from Women in Law, and the Best Faculty Mentor Award.
She also holds numerous leadership roles, including Chair of the Dean Search Committee, Faculty Development Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, Academic Standards Committee, and Tenure, Promotion, and Academic Freedom Committee.
Professor Steadman has been twice recognized by the Pinckney Inn Chapter of Phi Delta Phi with the Judge Alex Sanders Award for Outstanding Dedication and Service to Students.
