Schreck honored with Lifetime Achievement Award

Charleston School of Law adjunct professor Gordon Schreck has received the first–ever Maritime Association of South Carolina (MASC) Lifetime Achievement Award for his “distinguished service to the maritime industry.”

Professor Schreck received the honor at the MASC Centennial Gala, celebrating its 100th anniversary as the maritime industry’s organized presence in South Carolina.

He has been a leader in the maritime and transportation community for decades, serving as chair emeritus of the board and as a private-sector “stakeholder” on local U.S. Coast Guard committees focused on port safety and security.

South Carolina State House Rep. Mark Smith recently appointed Schreck to serve on the “Maritime & Logistics Wise Council,” which guides on issues affecting ports, logistics, and maritime commerce.

“The Centennial Maritime Gala was truly a landmark and informative event that honored our rich history,” wrote Rep. Smith. “The event recognized deserving award winners and shared a clear vision of how the Lowcountry’s waterfront community has thrived.”

The Centennial Gala served as the closing ceremony to “Maritime Week” in South Carolina.

The week-long series of events, established by Gov. McMaster, was created to encourage “all South Carolinians to recognize and celebrate the lasting contributions of the maritime, transportation, and logistics community to the prosperity and well-being of South Carolina.”

The Admiralty LLM program at Charleston Law continues to collaborate with local industry leaders to provide law students with a rich, hands-on legal education.

The Law School program brings students together with experienced admiralty lawyers who make our port a success.
