Charleston Law's Molly Frey wins Mock Trial Competition

Charleston School of Law SBA President and 3L Molly Frey and Carson Francis of Widener University Delaware Law School won the 27th Annual District Attorney’s Summer Intern Mock Trial Competition last week in Pennsylvania.

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele said Frey and the interns who participated in the Mock Trial Competition prosecuted a fictitious murder case that “involved overcoming legal hurdles and factual challenges.”

Frey is also the incoming President of the Student Bar Association, a member of the Trial Advocacy Board, and Vice President of Internal Competition. During the summer of 2025, Frey served as an intern with the United States Coast Guard (USCG) at the Office of the Chief Prosecutor (OCP) and the Maritime Law Enforcement Academy (MLEA).

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING AT CHARLESTON LAW

First-year law students and undergraduate interns acted as witnesses, while the jury for the final round was made up of District Attorney Steele, Deputy District Attorneys, and Assistant District Attorneys. First Assistant District Attorney Edward F. McCann Jr. sat as the judge for the final round.

The competition included 14 certified second-year law student interns (approved and certified under Pa. B.A.R. 321 and 322 by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court). The certification allowed them to practice law in Magisterial District Court and the Court of Common Pleas this summer under the guidance and supervision of the office’s Assistant District Attorneys.

In addition, the summer intern class included 13 first-year law students, 19 undergraduates, and two high school students.

Frey received BARBRI bar exam preparation course tuition in recognition of her performance in the competition.
