Charleston Law tops State Bar Passage list

The Supreme Court of South Carolina released the results of the February 2026 Uniform Bar Examination, and Charleston School of Law tops the bar passage list in both the First-Time UBE and Overall Pass rankings.

Of 23 first-time bar exam applicants from Charleston Law, 21 passed the exam (91.3% pass rate). In addition, of the 111 bar exam applicants who received “a scaled score of 266 or higher,” 33 were Charleston School of Law graduates (78.57% pass rate).

“These results are a powerful testament to the grit of our graduates and the unwavering dedication of our faculty and staff,” said Charleston School of Law Dean Jonathan A. Marcantel. “Seeing our students transition from the classroom to the profession with such distinction is the greatest reward of this work. To our newest members of the bar: you have proven you belong at the highest levels of this vocation, and we could not be prouder to call you our alumni.”

The Office of Academic and Bar Success collaborates with Law School faculty and staff to meet students’ needs and supports students from the first day of Orientation through the bar examination process.

“The department is dedicated to equipping these students with the required skills to be successful in law school, the bar exam, and beyond,” added Sean Ashoff, Assistant Director for Academic and Bar Success. “These numbers are proof that the school’s investment in both preparation and performance skills has been integral to our graduates’ success in licensure and in practice. We have developed a culture that expects high levels of dedication paired with unconditional support for our graduates, and I look forward to seeing what we can accomplish next.”

The Uniform Bar Examination is administered twice a year in South Carolina. The summer exam will be held on July 28–29 in Columbia.
