Sheila Beail Bridges is an Assistant Professor of Law at Charleston School of Law. Professor Bridges brings extensive practice and teaching experience to the classroom. She teaches Property, Wills, Trusts & Estates, Family Law, and Advanced Estate Planning. Professor Bridges’ research interests span tax law, family law, constitutional law, and feminist legal theory.
Prior to joining Charleston School of Law faculty, Professor Bridges taught at Suffolk University Law School and Boston University School of Law and built a robust private practice as a Trusts & Estates Partner at Hanson Bridgett LLP. She designed complex trusts to optimize federal transfer and income tax planning, counseled clients on tax strategies, and advised trustees on fiduciary duties. Her legal career also includes roles as a Trusts & Estates Associate at Nixon Peabody LLP, Sideman & Bancroft LLP, and Cooley LLP, as well as litigation experience at Quinn Emanuel LLP and Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP. Earlier in her career, she served as a Pro Bono Domestic Violence Litigation Attorney with the Women’s Bar Foundation.
Professor Bridges earned her J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School. She holds an MPhil in Gender Theory with honors from the University of Cambridge and an M.A. in Political Theory, magna cum laude, from Cornell University. She completed her B.S. in Business & Accounting, magna cum laude, at Saint Mary’s College. She has been admitted to practice in California, Massachusetts, and South Dakota.
Outside the classroom, she enjoys exploring Charleston with her husband, Todd, their daughter, Simone, and two pups, Piggy Sue and Corgi Mae.
