Land ('23) named to 2024 SC Pro Bono Honor Roll

Charleston School of Law graduate Caroline “Bitsy” Land (’23) has been named to the 2024 South Carolina Pro Bono Honor Roll, a distinction awarded by the Supreme Court of South Carolina to attorneys who provide 50 or more hours of free legal service in a calendar year.

Land, an assistant solicitor in the First Circuit Solicitor’s Office, was recognized for her dedication to serving clients who would otherwise be unable to afford legal representation.

With nearly one in four South Carolina residents qualifying for free civil legal aid, state legal service organizations rely heavily on volunteer efforts from attorneys like Land to meet demand. Pro bono attorneys provide vital support in areas ranging from housing and health care access to domestic violence and veterans’ benefits.

“Being named to the Pro Bono Honor Roll is recognition for those in the legal profession who have demonstrated a commitment to service to those who are unable to afford representation. I commend each dedicated lawyer listed on the Pro Bono Honor Roll who has given their time to make a positive difference to help their fellow members of the community.” – Chief Justice John W. Kittredge

The Pro Bono Honor Roll was established in 2019 to highlight attorneys who render public interest legal services in accordance with Rule 6.1 of the South Carolina Rules of Professional Conduct. These services often include representation for individuals of limited means and work with charitable organizations, as well as efforts to improve the legal system itself.

Land clerked for Judge Ferrell Cothran for 18 months before joining the solicitor’s office in Orangeburg County.
