Student Profile: Mason McCormick

Mason McCormick is a 2L Charleston School of Law student from Simi Valley, California. We recently sat down with Mason to learn more about his journey to law school. Watch his student profile video above. Below are some select quotes from our Q&A:

Why law school?

Mason McCormick: I was looking for something challenging and that’s Intellectual and that’s exactly what I found. Charleston School of Law has allowed me the opportunity to prove that to myself and see what that’s worth.

What are the things that you like to do when you do have free time?

Mason McCormick: I do like to get out and enjoy the city. I like to enjoy the restaurants. The food here is amazing. It’s not hard to find something good.

With school, student organizations, internships/externships, and a life outside the school, how do you strike a balance?

Mason McCormick: The most important part that I found in balancing my home life and relationships has been communication and commitment. That means getting on the same page with your significant other, both of you knowing that you will put in the time and effort to the relationship, and commitment that both of you have. I give a lot of credit to my wife. I truly don’t think I would have made it this far — or been  successful to the extent I have been — without her. And that came from  communicating and both committing that this. She has really stepped up and has done so much for me.

Have you had any experiential learning opportunities?

Mason McCormick: I worked at Cobb Hammett Law Firm under their corporate division. So, mostly litigation based, some transactional law and seeing the way that academics is applied practically is not evident just learning the material. Having that experience of an attorney showing me this is what the law is and how it’s applied is a great place for a law student to get experience.
