Phi Delta Phi wins Inn of the Year The Pickney Inn chapter of Phi Delta Phi at Charleston School of Law received the 2024 Inn
The Charleston School of Law hosted its Winter 2023 Commencement ceremony on Saturday afternoon at the Charleston Museum Auditorium.
Of the Winter 2023 graduating class, five students graduated cum laude, one student graduated magna cum laude, one summa cum laude. In addition, six students graduated with presidential honors.
“Our Winter Commencement ceremony is a perfect opportunity to celebrate our students success and begin the holiday season,” said Dean and Provost Larry Cunningham. “Our faculty have prepared our graduates to serve the greater good through the legal profession. We look forward to seeing our graduates continue to excel in the community.”
In addition, two students were inducted into the school’s Forensic Club: Khari Ford and Matthew Decker . Selection to the Forensic Club is based on three criteria: leadership, professionalism, and academic commitment.
A core value at the Charleston School of Law is to instill within its graduates a commitment to public service. Students are required to perform a minimum of 50 hours of pro bono (“for the public good”) service to the community.
Eight students were recognized for their outstanding service in the community. Those who served 100 or more hours were: Rachel Maria Castell, Graeham Colin Gillin, Miranda Allissa Graves, Casey Elizabeth Herm, Madeleine Leigh King, Crawford Austin Morgan, Keira Marie Rhoat and Mark Zdanewicz.
“This group of talented individuals is now equipped with legal knowledge for the rigors of the legal profession,” noted Charleston School of Law president Ed Bell. “One of the incredible things about this school is that each student shows dedication to the founding motto: pro bono populi. The dedication of time and effort toward the betterment of others throughout the community is a worthwhile proposition and something that will serve them well in their lives.”
Music for the annual Winter Commencement ceremony was provided by the Charleston Brass.
The Charleston School of Law offices will be closed through the holiday season and will reopen on Wednesday, January 3. Spring classes for the spring semester will begin on Monday., January 8.
