Charleston School of Law alum Judah VanSyckel (’10) has been recognized by Columbia Business Monthly Among the 2023 “Legal Elite” of the Midlands for the fourth consecutive year.
VanSyckel received the most votes in four categories, including Criminal — White Collar, Corporate Investigations, Criminal — General, and Criminal — DUI.
“It’s an honor to be named among these attorneys. Thank you for your support and recognition,” said VanSyckel. “I would also like to thank my clients who have trusted me with their legal needs through the years.”
Admitted to practice in the state courts of South Carolina, VanSyckel is also admitted to the Federal District Court for the District of South Carolina, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. His core practice areas include criminal defense and whistleblower matters. His background as a former healthcare fraud prosecutor has given him insight and experience in these areas.
He is the founder of Saluda Law, a 2010 graduate of the Charleston School of Law and a 2006 graduate of the Honors College at the University of South Carolina.
In addition, alums Jonathan Spitz (’12) and Bennett Evers (’14) also received “Legal Elite” honors in the Midlands. Sptiz and Evers are both partners at Todd & Johnson in Charleston.

Before the traditional pomp-and-circumstance that comes with the scheduled annual graduation ceremony of Charleston School of Law, a small congregation of people will gather on stage in the McAlister Fieldhouse.
Charleston School of Law presented its inaugural “Community Partner of the Year Award” to Charleston Pro Bono Legal Services and the U.S. Coast Guard Judge Advocate General at Saturday’s Commencement ceremony.
