Charleston Law names Anastopoulo Interim President

The Charleston School of Law Board of Trustees has named Constance A. Anastopoulo Interim President.

“I am delighted that the Board of Trustees has accepted my recommendation to appoint Constance A. Anastopoulo to take up the role as Interim President of the law school,” said Board of Trustees Chairman and President Emeritus Edward J. Bell III. “Professor Anastopoulo has served our school for many years and in many capacities including as a professor, as advisor to the Charleston Law Review and the Journal of Public Policy, as well as several other student organizations, and as chair of many committees.  Professor Anastopoulo exemplifies our commitment to excellent teaching and our faculty’s devotion to students and I am happy that she will help lead us into our next chapter.”

“I have been a part of Charleston School of Law for the past 17 years and I am excited to build on the amazing work we are doing and to continue to support our faculty and staff to empower students and shape the next generation of lawyers,” said new Interim President Constance Anastopoulo. “I would like to thank Chairman Ed Bell and the Board of Trustees for entrusting me with this opportunity.  I look forward to getting to work.”

Anastopoulo joined Charleston Law in 2007. She has been chosen “Professor of the Year” by the law students and has been honored by the Black Law Students Association for her commitment to bringing about meaningful legal and political change.

Prior to coming to the Charleston School of Law, Anastopoulo served as senior litigator in the civil litigation division of the Charleston Law Firm of Poulin, Willey, Anastopoulo, LLC, where she managed the appellate practice for the firm.

Anastopoulo has served on the Board of My Sister’s House, Inc., a non-profit shelter for domestic violence victims, the Advisory Board of the Women and Gender Studies at the College of Charleston, as Vice President of the League of Women Voters, and is a past president of the Daughters of Penelope Philanthropy. She is a member of the S.C. Bar, the Charleston Bar Association, and the S.C. Women Lawyers Association.

Hal Cobb (’12), a Charleston School of Law graduate and partner at Cobb Hammett, has completed his term as Interim President and served as an asset to the Law School through its transition to 501(c)(3) status.
