Advocacy programs celebrate another successful performance

The Trial Advocacy Board (TAB) at Charleston School of Law competed in the 2023 Mock Trial Community Competition last week. The event was sponsored and judged by nine different law schools across the country and the competition invited 14 law schools the opportunity to compete in four rounds of competition.

Charleston School of Law 3L student Gabriel Mangold won the coveted Best Advocate Award and the team advanced through the quarterfinals of the competition.

The Charleston Law team included Mangold, Shane Hursh, Nour Goodfriend, and Simi Ojo. The law school’s team witnesses were Sherman Brown, Kennedy Kimball, Rachel Rittelmann, and Sydney Rose.

“All of the student advocates and witnesses worked tirelessly these last two months to prepare for the competition,” said Professor Suzanne Chapman, faculty advisor for TAB. “It truly was a ‘community’ effort by Charleston Law professors and alumni to coach the team. I am thrilled for the team and the momentum of the Advocacy Programs as we move into the Spring competition season.”

Law school professors Allyson Haynes Stuart, Jessica Moeller and alumna and adjunct professor Brian Kiel (’17) and Cait Turner (‘23) assisted in coaching the Charleston School of Law team.
