A beloved member of the Class of 2021, Dylan Autera, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 1, 2021. Dylan was spending his academic year at Georgetown University Law Center, where he was also pursuing an LL.M. in Tax. He was working part-time as a legal extern at H&CO, LLP in DC.
Dylan was from Peachtree City, Georgia, and graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Business Administration. At Charleston School of Law, he was a Legal Research, Analysis and Writing Fellow and gave his time to the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. He was a vibrant member of our law school community. He excelled as a student, earning two CALI Excellence for the Future Awards given to the highest scoring student in every course, and also making the Dean’s List.
Katie Tanner, outgoing SBA President, described Dylan this way:
“Dylan lit up every room with his huge, perfect-teethed smile. He was goofy and sweet. He was the king of making fun plans, always the best at uniting our friend group and organizing fun activities for all of us such as pumpkin carving, group meals, and group trips. He worked so hard to pursue a career in tax law, earning a position in the Georgetown LLM program and securing interviews with impressive Big 4 companies. He was smart, hardworking, and extremely motivated. He was never seen without his dog Maverick by his side, the most loyal and loving boxer there is, just like Dylan. He loved his dog, his family, and his friends more than anything and his love, loyalty, and goofiness will be very missed.”
Dylan’s family held a memorial service in Peachtree City on April 6. The entire Charleston School of Law sends it condolences to his family and mourns the loss of an exceptional person. He will be missed.
