Distinguished Visiting Professor of Law
Director of Externship Program James M. Klein, Distinguished University Professor Emeritus at the University of Toledo College of Law, joined the faculty at the Charleston School of Law in January 2010 as a visiting professor. He teaches in the areas of clinical law including externships and civil procedure.
Klein retired from the University of Toledo after 38 years on the faculty, where he served both as interim dean in 1993-95 and associate dean for academic affairs in 1992-93. He has taught as a visitor at the University of New Mexico, University of San Diego, Florida Coastal School of Law, the University of Western Australia, and the Charleston School of Law. Prior to joining the University of Toledo faculty, Klein was a Reginald Heber Smith fellow from 1969-71, assigned to Contra Costa Legal Services Foundation, a legal services program in the SF Bay Area. He is admitted to the bars of California and Ohio.
Klein currently serves on the Council of the ABA’s Section on Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar. He served six years on the ABA Accreditation Committee from 1997-2003; he has been on over 20 ABA site inspection teams and chaired several teams. He also served as the NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative for the University of Toledo from 1990-2007.
Klein is the author of numerous law review articles and several books including Banks Baldwin’s Ohio Civil Practice (2nd ed. Thomson West 2004) and updates.
