Associate Dean of Students
Brett C. Barker is the acting associate dean of students. He is a native of Conway, S.C., and graduated from Clemson University with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology. He earned his law degree from the Charleston School of Law, where he served as chairman of the Judicial Committee. During his tenure as a law student, he was a Student Senator and received recognition for his pro bono work. During law school, Dean Barker was awarded the Nelson Mullins – Crisis Ministries Pro Bono Fellowship for his work at the Crisis Ministries Homeless Justice Project. He also served as a law clerk to the Hon. Kristi L. Harrington, Circuit Court Judge for the 9th Circuit of South Carolina. Before joining the Charleston School of Law he was in private practice.
Dean Barker is a charter member and treasurer for the James L. Petigru American Inn of Court. Additionally, pursuant to ABA Standard 504(a), he also serves as the Bar Admissions Counselor. He is a member of the American Bar Association, Charleston County Bar Association and Berkley County Bar Association, and is admitted to the bars of the State of South Carolina and the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina. Dean Barker has served on the Boys and Girls Club Shaw Unit, Executive Board of the Mediation and Meeting Center of Charleston, and as vice chair of The Birthday Foundation Board. Dean Barker serves on the boards of the Folly Beach Exchange Club and Carolina Commuters.
