External Scholarship Opportunities

A variety of scholarships exist for current and prospective law students. Many are offered through private law firms and various organizations.

Sallie Mae® Bridging the Dream Scholarship for Graduate Students

Between January 10, 2018 and February 14, 2018, Sallie Mae® is accepting applications from future and current graduate students for a $20,000 Bridging the Dream Scholarship for Graduate Students.

Students can enter to win the Bridging the Dream Scholarship for Graduate Students at SallieMae.com/BridgingtheDreamGrad.

ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund

The ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund is intended to encourage racial and ethnic minority students to apply to law school and to provide financial assistance to these students. The Scholarship Fund will award $5,000 of financial assistance annually to each scholarship recipient attending an ABA-accredited law school.  An award made to an entering first-year student may be renewable for two additional years, resulting in financial assistance totaling $15,000 during his or her time in law school.

The application can be downloaded on the ABA’s website. The deadline to submit the application is April 6, 2018.

FDCC Foundation Barb Currie Diversity Scholarship

Named after the spouse of long-time FDCC member Edward J. Currie, Jr., the scholarship is committed to the inclusion of diverse professionals in our organization and the legal profession.

All diverse law school students and prospective students are eligible to apply. The scholarship offers a $5,000 academic scholarship award and access to impactful internship opportunities.

An application consisting of a personal statement, writing sample, and references is due by email on January 31st, 2018 to Diane Polscer.

ClassActionWallet.com Law School Scholarship

Law Students have the opportunity to apply for the ClassActionWallet.com $2,000 Scholarship

  • Submit a 500-word essay or less online by May 6, 2018, in response to:
    Who is your favorite American President and why?
  • 5 finalists will be selected by ClassActionWallet.com and will be notified on or before May 13, 2018
  • Finalists will be announced on ClassActionWallet.com soon after
  • The $2,000 scholarship recipient will be chosen by ClassActionWallet.com staff and the award will be paid directly to the individual
  • The winner will be notified by email and posted on ClassActionWallet.com before June 8, 2018

Binder & Associates Scholarship

Binder & Associates is awarding a $1500 scholarship to one qualified student who plans to become an attorney. Pre law undergraduates and students entering law school anywhere in the United States are eligible. The scholarship is meant to help defray the costs of tuition or other related expenses.

Applications must be submitted on or before February 15, 2018.

Lotze Mosley LLP Scholarship

Kevin Mosley and Nikki Lotze are announcing their 2nd annual essay scholarship to pre law undergraduates or 1st year law students entering college or law school fall 2018. This year’s scholarship is for $1,000 aimed to assist with school expenses.

Applicants must submit the following requirements by February 15th, 2018:

  • Resume
  • Acceptance letter from a school within the United States
  • Complete copy of your school transcripts
  • Proof that you are a legal resident of the United States with either a birth certificate, permanent resident card or passport
  • Typed essay up to 3 pages on a topic related to the area you wish to pursue

Land Legal Group 2nd Annual Scholarship

The Land Legal Group 2nd annual scholarship is now available to students anticipating attending school in the fall of 2018 as either a pre law undergraduate or first year law student. The $1,000 scholarship is intended to help defray school tuition and related expenses.

Applicants must submit the following by February 15th, 2018:

  • A completed resume
  • One to three (1-3) page typed essay on the topic of students choice related to the area of law they intend to pursue
  • A complete copy of schools transcripts
  • An acceptance letter from a school within the United States
  • Proof of legal residency in the U.S. (i.e., birth certificate, passport, permanent resident card, etc.- social security cards will not be accepted.)

South Carolina Bar Employment & Labor Law Memorial Scholarship

This $1,000.00 scholarship will be given to a law student from the USC School of Law or the Charleston School of Law who is interested in the practice of employment and labor law and demonstrates leadership and academic potential.

The recipient must be:

  • A rising third-year law student enrolled at the USC School of Law or Charleston School of Law;
  • Have demonstrated interest and ability in the human resources and/or employment & labor law field;
  • Special consideration will be given to members of the military and their family members; and
  • A preferred GPA of 3.0.

2018 Dwyer Williams Dretke Attorneys, PC Scholarship

This $1,000 scholarship is intended to help defray first-year expenses for students graduating from undergraduate school that have been accepted into an accredited law school anywhere in the United States.

Applicants must submit the following by July 1st, 2018:

  • A completed Scholarship Application Form (.doc)(.pdf)
  • One to three (1-3) page typed essay
  • An official and complete copy of undergraduate college transcripts
  • An acceptance letter from an accredited law school within the United States
  • Proof of legal residency in the U.S. (i.e., birth certificate, passport, permanent resident card, etc.)

Completed applications must be submitted no later than July 1st, 2018.

The Branch Out Scholarship

Bisnar Chase Personal Injury Attorneys is hosting a bi-yearly scholarship giving $1,000 to a student who demonstrates through a personal statement that they are committed to expanding their education and using their education to improve their communities.

Details and application information are available on the Bisnar Chase website. Deadline for the submission of applications is on June 15, 2018.

Whitmarsh Family Law, PC Scholarship

Whitmarsh Family Law, PC, is proudly offering a scholarship for students attending school in the fall of 2018 as either a pre law undergraduate or a first-year law student. This scholarship is intended to help cover the cost of education and related expenses. The recipient must be a US citizen or authorized to work in the US, accepted and attending school in the fall of 2018 and must have at least a 3.0 GPA in order to be considered.

Applicants must submit the following by February 15th, 2018:

  • Resume
  • School transcripts
  • Acceptance letter from a college/ law school
  • Copy of your birth certificate (or permanent residency card)
  • 250 – 500 word essay explaining why you are drawn to the study and practice of law
