External Scholarship Opportunities

A variety of scholarships exist for current and prospective law students. Many are offered through private law firms and various organizations.

Disclaimer: The Charleston School of Law has no authority in the selection of recipients of non-institutional scholarships. Students who apply to external scholarships agree to do their due diligence and not hold the Charleston School of Law accountable for any damages.

ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund

The ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund is intended to encourage racial and ethnic minority students to apply to law school and to provide financial assistance to these students. The Scholarship Fund will award $5,000 of financial assistance annually to each scholarship recipient attending an ABA-accredited law school.  An award made to an entering first-year student may be renewable for two additional years, resulting in financial assistance totaling $15,000 during his or her time in law school.

The application can be downloaded on the ABA’s website. The deadline to submit the application is April 6, 2018.

The Blanch Law Firm Scholarship

The Blanch Law Firm is looking for an excellent writer to contribute an outstanding article to our online publication. The student will be assigned a topic in the criminal law field that applies to a Federal or State legal issue. Each applicant will be given an outline to guide them on their research and writing.

* Cash awards totaling $5,000.

* Authorship – publication credit

* An opportunity to come work with our lawyers in New York City for a one day.

Banafshe Law Firm Scholarship

Annually, one student will be awarded $1,000 towards their education. This scholarship is for students who are currently attending or planning on attending their first year of college or graduate school.

Clinton Brink I Memorial Scholarship

The Law Offices of Brink Law Firm is offering the Clinton Brink I Memorial Scholarship of $1,000. It does not matter who you are, where you’re from, or what degree you’re pursuing. The Brink Law Firm wants to help.

Applicants must film a short video essay. The video essay may be any format; from merely reciting the relevant content on camera, to filming a powerpoint, to dramatic reenactment. Feel free to get creative. The topic is: Is the doctrine of adverse possession (aka squatter’s rights) fair?

To submit your video, Please upload your video to youtube or vimeo and then send us a link at: scholarships@brinkatlaw.com.

  • Length: No less than 45 seconds, and no longer than 4 minutes.
  • Due date: Submission of the video essay by August 1, 2018 at 12am PST.
  • Terry and Clinton will choose the winner on September 3, 2018.

Military Veteran Law Student Scholarship

Barnett Howard & Williams PLLC, a Criminal Defense Law Firm in Fort Worth, Texas, is offering a $500 stipend scholarship to one military veteran law student (1L, 2L, or 3L) attending law school in the United States.

Candidates should submit a cover letter summarizing their military service and the legal field in which they hope to work after law school. Candidates are encouraged to submit, along with their letter, a DD-214, a record of military awards, or other commendatory documents from their military service.

*The deadline for submissions is August 1st of every year and the award will be announced on August 15th. Completed applications shall be sent either by email to info@bhwlawfirm.com or by mail to Barnett Howard & Williams PLLC.

Whitmarsh Family Law Scholarship

Michael Whitmarsh is proudly offering a $1,500 scholarship for students attending school in the fall of 2018 as either a pre law undergraduate or a first-year law student. This scholarship is intended to help cover the cost of education and related expenses. The recipient must be a US citizen or authorized to work in the US, accepted and attending school in the Fall of 2018 and must have at least a 3.0 GPA in order to be considered.

Applications must be submitted by Aug. 31, 2018.

Padua Latino Justice Scholarship

The Law Offices of Alejandro Padua is offering the Padua Latino Justice Scholarship of $2500 to a student currently enrolled in a U.S. university or law school who are in need of financial assistance in order to help them achieve their academic and professional dreams. Applications from undocumented immigrants, DACA recipients and DREAMers, and students with pending immigrant or non-immigrant visa applications are strongly encouraged.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must currently be a law student or undergraduate student interested in pursuing a career in law.
  • Must be in good academic standing with your educational institution and provide current transcripts.
  • Must apply to the contest via email and provide an introduction including: name, address, and the name of the school you’re looking to attend.
  • Must provide a short written or video essay describing a current legal issue and a potential solution they believe is important to achieving greater justice or equality in the future by August 15th, 2018.
  • A winner will be chosen on October 1st, 2018.

Social Justice Scholarship By Maxim Law, PLLC

Maxim Law, PLLC is offering a scholarship for students pursuing degrees in social justice-related studies. The winning applicant will receive $500 to support his or her educational costs, including tuition and other fees.

The eligibility and selection criteria, in addition to the application requirements, instructions and deadlines, are available on the Maxim Law, PLLC student scholarship program page.  The award will be granted two times per year to two different students who meet the eligibility requirements and submit the most compelling essay.

Spolin Law Civil Rights & Criminal Law Scholarship

Spolin Law is offering a $1,000 scholarship to aid one student in achieving their educational and future career goals.

Bradford Legal Scholarship

To support students, Bradford & Co has launched $1,000 Scholarship Program. Our Scholarship program is open to all students, from part-time to post-graduate.

The Law Offices of Casey D. Shomo Scholarship

The Law Offices of Casey D. Shomo Scholarship is available to graduate and undergraduate students. International students are also welcome to apply for the program. Students must write an essay on the following topic: How the Law can be Used to Make our Country a Better Place for Everyone to Live In? The winner will receive $1,000.

The Law Offices of Keith Bregoff Scholarship

Keith Bregoff is thrilled to have the opportunity to award a scholarship to one future lawyer. Students who will be pre law undergraduates or entering law school in the United States are eligible for the $500 scholarship. The scholarship is intended to help the student defray the cost of their education, and can be used for tuition or related expenses.

The Worgul, Sarna & Ness, Criminal Defense Attorneys, LLC Scholarship will award an individual student $5,000 towards their educational and career goals.
