Access Services Specialist

The Charleston School of Law seeks resumes for the full-time position of Access Services Specialist. The successful candidate must have strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.  The Access Services Specialist will uphold and, where appropriate, update policies, provide management and support for library circulation services and access to library resources.  This position will oversee and maintain our study room policies and system; our automated library system for circulation functions; the upkeep of our print library collection; and password disbursement and maintenance for our specialized legal databases.  This role is also responsible for scheduling and training all circulation workers.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  1. Associates degrees required;
  2. A creative self-starter who enjoys being involved in projects from beginning to end;
    Knowledge of Microsoft Office and other computer skills;
  3. Strong and accurate oral and written communication skills;
  4. Organizational skills, time management, a high level of attention to detail and confidentiality are essential;
  5. Ability to work effectively with others as a team player;
  6. Comfortable with answering patron inquiries via phone, online and in person;
  7. Prior formal or informal training experience

Outreach, Instruction & Reference Librarian

The Charleston School of Law seeks resumes for the full-time position of Outreach, Instruction & Reference Librarian. This position will also serve as the direct supervisor for the Charleston School of Law Library reference student workers. Supervisory responsibilities include hiring, scheduling, maintaining and creating policies, and providing trainings to the reference students working in the law library.  The successful candidate must be a creative self-starter who enjoys being involved in projects from beginning to end, and possess strong interpersonal, organizational, time-management, and communication skills.  The Outreach, Instruction & Reference Librarian will be responsible for creating, assigning,, and maintaining the library’s online presence, including its website, Libguides, blog, social media, maintaining and testing the proxy server for online resources, coordinating management of electronic resources with the IT Director, and  providing reference assistance to Charleston School of Law library patrons.  In addition, the position carries formal and informal teaching responsibilities and assists with the preparation of instructional reference/research materials, including subject bibliographies.  The librarian will represent Charleston School of Law in local, regional, and national meetings as requested by the Associate Dean for Information Resources.  The successful candidate may be requested to teach a small LRAW section, skills course, or doctrinal class as an adjunct professor; additional compensation will be provided for this.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  1. ABA accredited J.D. and ALA accredited M.L.S./M.I.L.S. degrees required;
  2. 3-5 years of prior library experience in any law Library type or department;
    3. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, law related resources, and other computer skills are required;
    4.   Strong time-management and organizational skills, effective communication, attention to detail, and confidentiality are essential;
  3. Self-motivated with the ability to successfully work effectively alone and with others;
  4. Prior instructional experience required; and
  5. Prior supervisory experience preferred

Assistant Director for Academic and Bar Success

Department: Academic Affairs

Status: Full-time, 12-month, staff level

Reports to: Assistant Dean for Academic and Bar Success

FLSA: Exempt

The Charleston School of Law is looking for someone enthusiastic about student success. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching in a law school, managing people and schedules, and working in a team to help guide students in their pursuits of academic and professional achievement.

JOB SUMMARY AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Assistant Director for Academic and Bar Success is a full-time, staff-level position. The Assistant Director will work alongside the Assistant Dean for Academic Success and Bar Passage in all aspects of the Charleston School of Law’s Academic Development programs The position will primarily focus on helping students get a strong start by working with 1Ls and 2Ls, but the ideal candidate will also have experience working with bar exam takers. Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Aid in development of a workshop series for 1L students to build skills for academic success
  • Help students acclimate to law school through one-on-one meetings; special focus on students deemed at risk
  • Manage peer-to-peer (fellow) academic success program
  • Teach established Academic and Legal Skills curriculum
  • Provide assistance for Bar Exam test takers (after graduation); may require weekend and after-hours work

The Assistant Director for Academic and Bar Success must be able to work with current law school faculty and staff in the continued development and implementation of programs used to enhance student academic and bar success. Preference will be given to applicants who have experience teaching in law school, specifically in an academic or bar success program.

REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS:

Applicant must possess a J.D. degree with a record of high academic achievement from an ABA-accredited law school. Requires admission to the bar in at least one U.S. jurisdiction and a demonstrated commitment to working with students, inside and outside the classroom, to improve their academic performance.  Ideally, applicant will have passed a bar exam that includes the MPT. Applicant must have excellent writing, speaking, interpersonal and organizational skills.
