Bradley Banias ’07, along with Rebecca Sharpless of the University of Miami School of Law, will be presenting at a CLE seminar to be held at the John Marshall Law School, Blackburn Conference Center on April 28 in Atlanta, Ga. The topic will be “Strategies to Challenge Detention via Habeas: What statute governs detention? Alumni welcome a son

Heath Ward '11 and Lisa Yaxis Ward '11 recently welcomed a son into their family. Grady Hampton Ward was born on February 16, 2017.


Alumna sworn in as a York County magistrate judge

Chisa Putman ’08 was recently sworn in as a York County magistrate judge. She becomes the only York County black judge and is the second black female to ever hold a county magistrate job. In addition, she is the first ever full-time black female York County judge. To read more, click here.

Alumna seeking governor’s nomination for Augusta district attorney

Natalie Paine ’08 is currently seeking the governor’s nomination to become district attorney in Augusta. Natalie has worked as a prosecutor in the Augusta district attorney’s office since 2009. She has become one of the office's major crime prosecutors, and recently obtained the RICO indictment against 17 alleged gang members.

On Saturday, Dec. 10, Charleston Law alumni, students and friends of the school participated in a Habitat for Humanity building project. This build was the third Habitat project the group has participated in this fall.

Alumnus serves as Chair for the South Carolina Bar’s Practice and Procedure Committee

Johathan W. Lounsberry ’09 was recently selected to serve as the Chair for the South Carolina Bar’s Practice and Procedure Committee.  The members of the Practice and Procedure Committee study and make recommendations regarding the rules and law pertaining to practice and procedure.


Alumna awarded National Title Professional designation

Martha K. McConnell ’08 has been awarded a National Title Professional (NTP) designation from the American Land Title Association (ALTA), the national trade association of the land title insurance industry. Martha is the second NTP designee from South Carolina and joins 65 other industry leaders from around the United States who have earned the professional designation. The designation recognizes land title professionals who demonstrate the knowledge, experience and dedication essential to the safe and efficient transfer of real property. Alumnus to serve as Executive Director of Maryland Democratic Party

It has been announced that Chuck Conner ’13 will serve as the Executive Director of the Maryland Democratic Party. Conner currently serves as Community Outreach Director of the Maryland Democratic Party. He previously served as Stewardship Director at Thread, a Baltimore-based non-profit that engages underperforming high school students confronting significant barriers outside of the classroom.

Alumnus publishes his first book

Tim Bubenik ’10 recently published his first book “Things Have Changed for Me”. It is described as the tale of a sister who finds out her brother has abducted a young boy. Tim is a currently employed full-time as an attorney with the federal government. He is a native of Ferguson, Missouri and studied Creative Writing at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale before attending Charleston School of Law. For the third year in a row, Mack Mayo ’10 has been selected by Spokane-Coeur d’Alene Living Magazine as one of the top lawyers in the region for Class Action litigation. Mack currently has a private practice in Spokane, Wash.


Alumnus named to Georgia Trend’s “Legal Elite”

Brandon Elijah ’09 was recently named in Georgia Trend magazine’s, “2015 Legal Elite.” Brandon received the honor in the “Taxes and Estates” category.  Attorneys named to Georgia Trend’s “Legal Elite” are determined solely by lawyer’s votes. Any attorney who is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and lives and practices in Georgia was eligible to vote and to be nominated. On Friday, Feb. 5, the Alumni Association Board of Directors hosted an event honoring the founding faculty and administrators of the Charleston School of Law. The event was held at the Harbour Club, in Charleston. Honorees included Dean Richard Gershon, Dean John Benfield, Dean Gordon Russell, Dean Nancy Zisk, Professor Randall Bridwell, Professor Stephen Spitz, Professor Allyson Haynes Stuart, and Professor Lorri Unumb.

The Clemson University Young Alumni Council has recently recognized Brian Collie ’08 as one of  the 2015 Roaring 10. The 2015 Roaring 10 are young alumni who have made an impact in business, leadership, community, educational and/or philanthropic endeavors.
