Students meet with Cunningham on public policy projects

June 5, 2019 – Seven students in a new Maymester seminar last week had a different kind of final exam:  Making issue presentations to a federal policymaker so he can share their work with congressional colleagues. Congressman Cunningham with students

For more than an hour on May 31, U.S. Rep. Joe Cunningham, D-S.C., interacted with students on presentations that tackled ways to make college debt affordable, lower health care premiums and reshape the way insurance works for catastrophic events, such as floods, storms and wildfires.

Cunningham said he found the presentations to be well thought-out and helpful.  Charleston School of Law President Ed Bell, who co-taught the class with attorney Tyler Williams, said the experience for students of talking in-depth with Cunningham about their projects was rewarding and a successful engagement for students interested in federal policy and law.
