Awards Days 2018

APRIL 10, 2018 – On Tuesday, April 10, students, faculty and staff came together in celebration of Awards Day 2018 to recognize the outstanding achievements in the Charleston School of Law community. Several awards were presented, the new executive board for the Student Bar Association was sworn in, and all of the May 2018 graduates who have donated over 100 hours of pro bono service were recognized. SBA executive board swearing in

Michelle Robbins Award – Lauren Daniels
This award is given in memory of Michelle Robbins, a member of the Class of 2007 who died after an accident during her second year of law school.  Ms. Robbins, a member of the Charleston Law Review, was committed to many causes and was a true Renaissance woman.  This award is presented to the third year student who best exemplifies a commitment and dedication to the Charleston School of Law, to public service, and to academics.  The recipient received a cash award in the amount of $1000.00.

Angela Nussbaum ScholarshipLauren Daniels

This award, in the amount of $1000.00, is given in memory of Angela Nussbaum, a member of the class of 2009 who was killed in an automobile accident. The award was created to be presented annually to the editor in chief of the Federal Courts Law Review. At the time of her death, Angela served as editor in chief of the Federal Courts Law Review, and worked diligently on the publication, and contributed greatly to the Charleston School of Law community. Since that time, the Federal Courts Law Review has combined with the Charleston Law Review. The award is now presented to the editor in chief of the Charleston Law Review.

This award, presented for the first time in 2018, is given in memory of Keith “KJ” Williams. KJ was a member of the class of 2018 who lost his battle with cancer. The award is presented to two students who display the same characteristics as KJ.

Student Bar Association Senator of the Year – KJ Williams
Presented for commitment to the Student Bar Association and service to the students of the Charleston School of Law.

Charleston School of Law Professor of the Year – Bill Janssen
Presented to a Charleston School of Law Professor who exudes superlative teaching ability, effectiveness inside the classroom, availability outside the classroom, and participation in student life.

Charleston School of Law Adjunct Professor of the Year – Raymond Batla 
Presented to a Charleston School of Law Adjunct Professor who exudes superlative teaching ability, effectiveness inside the classroom, availability outside the classroom, and participation in student life.
